I have been speedrunning the whole chapter today (edit 4 :
speedrun video is up)
I don't know if you are aware of the problem, but I had slowdowns in the last level. I have a Radeon HD 5770 and Athlon II X4 640, not topnotch but decent nonetheless, so this particular level might use more optimization ^^ "-lowdetail" solved it for me.
Anyway, I found most levels good, I hope you continue making levels :)
edit : argh, I *should* have watched the video before attempting speedrunning. RockLeeSmile cut short a few of your levels better than I did. I guess I will have to replay a few levels first...
edit 2 : I see a few of the shortcuts RockLeeSmile used in his video have been blocked in the more recent version I am currently playing, but not all of them. Some have been made harder but are still achievable !

Just one thing, I don't think you should fix alternate shortcuts. These were present in the original SMB levels, some of them intended and some unintended. It's a good thing someone was smart enough to find a shortcut, and I think you shouldn't stop people from doing that.
I agree.
However (generally speaking here) :
- On one hand, what is the point in the longer route when the shortcut is actually easier ? When shortcuts are too easy, most players probably won't even bother playing the actual level.
- On the other hand, unforeseen and/or badly fixed shortcuts can become stupidily hard to pull off, see Remnants level 9 for instance.
I like speedrunning but I think it is boring when only one or two frame perfect jumps allows to reach a top time, which is like 300% inferior to the usual route.
In other words, such kind of shortcuts are unbalanced.
AFAIC, I think the most rewarding case is when the time spared by the player increase linearly run after run (of course it is not possible)

the video is up ! (also added a link at the beginning of this post). There seems to be a slight audio/video sync problem, though. I don't know why :
- my encoded video is fine
- I used the same encoding settings as always
- This is the first time I have this problem with Youtube
