Custom levels currently only have one of two settings: single-character exclusive or all-character inclusive. There is currently no middle-ground that we know of.

A blacklist would be as simple as outlawing a character from being selected on the character select.

A whitelist would be a small group of characters that are able to play through the level. With the hint that stages must be possible to be submit to the Portal, it'd be logical to ensure that all characters in the whitelist are capable of completing the stage. One of the issues that I can forsee with this is that the par-times are determined by how fast the player completes the stage before submitting it +10% (according to Team Meat's twitter), if a whitelist becomes possible, the way that the par-time is specifically determined may become tricky to discern. A possibility is to have it based on the Meat Boy completion, but Meat Boy has the possibility of not being in the whitelist so that idea is out the window.

In essence, the blacklist and whitelist function in similar ways, the difference is that one excludes while the other includes.

Just a little food for thought, it crossed my mind when I was considering making a vertical level but don't want it to be dominated by Captain Viridian.

If someone could get Edmund or Tommy in here via their Twitter, that'd be greatly appreciated.

I think this is a great idea. The only thing I don't get is why you would have a whitelist and a blacklist. Using either one essentially serves the same purpose.

I think the best course of action is to not allow par times at all on user content UNLESS they are approached by Team Meat to be hosted as a user chapter.  I do not believe levels in the portal editor should have any bearing on your save, leaderboard position, or ability to run someones level for that matter.  Therefore A+ing a random user level is trivial at best in the grand scheme of things.  Not to mention, with Team Meat's method, you run into shit like A) some pro making a moderate level and plowing through it giving the A+ time an incredibly hard to achieve for moderates B) some asshole making a secret path, shortcut, pixel perfect walk off the screen and fall, etc etc oriented shit to get to Bandage Girl that most players wouldn't or couldn't find which causes them to get an overly insane A+ time most people just could not C) someone intentionally stalling the run and causing the A+ time to be extremely trivial.

What this boils down to is that A+ times on user content is a horrid idea.  Set the level editor to submit it in the same fashion as warps work where time is irrelevant and have user content just be for fun.  Don't have it count towards levels cleared on the global leaderboards.  Don't have it add to your global time.  Don't have it add to your percent complete.  Only allow approved content that makes it into the featured section to have this ability.  And to make this a less demanding process, allow the level editor to have a user input par time that is irrelevant unless it makes it into the featured section.  Why you might ask?  Because if someone is making quality content, they clearly aren't going to make a bullshit par time.

They're essentially the same entity. Except with the whitelist, you must check that all characters can complete the stage (unlike some of the main game's stages, where it's virtually impossible to clear some of them as certain characters). Functionally, I'm just asking that it be checked that all characters that are capable of using in a stage actually are capable of clearing the stage.

I had to read it several times for it to make sense. Certainly a good idea, especially since I know that some characters *Cough* Naija *Cough* are probably going to eat a 30 second level in less than 10

I do not create a Twitter account for my own sake, to resist temptation and distraction that I know will ensue if/when I do create one. This is a personal decision and I would appreciate it if you would respect such a decision.

This thread shall be derailed no longer past this point. This topic is not about character abilities or my personal decisions; please discuss the content of the original post.
