Hello everyone, I just thought I'd try and get a general advice thread started here, I believe some of the less skilled players among us (myself included) could benefit from some advice. Searching through the backlog, there didn't seem to be anything like this... so it should be okay, correct?

I know a lot of the people here are already vets who have 100% the game and are on the Top 100 spots of the leaderboards... but I'm stuck on some parts and some help would be appreciated. Specifically...

3-19x "El Topo"

I have problems just getting past the first missile launcher. @_@ Even then, if I can get past the first one, the next one surely causes me to meet my demise. I don't want to imagine what getting that tempting bandage is like... and since I haven't even gotten there I must ask preemptively: how do you get up the elevator shaft with the saws? And what is the best character for getting the bandage? It's the only bandage I have remaining in World 3. :c

The bandage in 5-20 "Judgment"

I really don't get how I'm supposed to get this one without zombies molesting me. D: What character would you guys recommend (aside from the Kid or Viridian)

How do I activate ultralowdetail?

I've heard that this option was added recently, and since I play on a laptop this would be a great thing for me to have. Unfortunately, though my searches on here and the Steam Forums, the only thing I know is I have to use the Launch Options, but I don't know what I have to input. People always tell people to "Use the Launch Options" but never tell them what to put down there. Really helpful. >_>

Thanks in advance for the help.

3-19x

You can dodge the first missile launcher without jumping. Run instantly to the other side, and 9 times out of the 10 the first missile misses you. Then I just stand on the block next to the right wall until Meat boy drops to the next level. You need to jump quickly, but just a small jump. I prefer to jump into the small hole four blocks from the right wall. Again you can sink down to the next level, and if your timing is right, the missiles wont get you. Then I cross to the left and fall down the gap. Its just a case of standing next to the blocks and making them dissolve whilst jumping directly up to dodge a missile or two. Then you're pretty much home free. I used Meat boy to get the bandage once I realised that you can wall slide off of the conveyor belt to easily avoid the saws, only took a couple of goes.

I'm sure ultra low detail will be -ultralowdetail in the launch options.

Dude.  Fuck El Topo.  Seriously.  That god damn bandage was the last one I needed.  I used Viridian.  Worked like a charm.

Thanks for your meaningful contribution to this topic! Crash Man will thank you for your help.

Anyway, ultra low detail can be enabled by adding -ultralowdetail to the launch options. And... well, frankly, I'd recommend The Kid for 5-20's bandage, or at least Jill or Ogmo if you don't have him. Otherwise it's just an issue of getting them all clumped together so you can keep better track of them... but it's not easy unfortunately :/

I took your advice MegaMew - I used Viridian, and after about 15 minutes I got the bandage. I've now got 100% on the Salt Factory, and I rode the success high and got my 100% on Hell as well. :D Now that just leaves the Rapture... on that note:

5-4x Alabaster

5-7x Downpour

5-8x Downer plus its bandage

5-10x Pulp Factory

Now I know about how the Kid can jump into the middle chute once the level starts, but... I don't have the kid yet. So how can you beat this level without doing the Kid trick?

5-14x Necrosis

5-16x Coil

5-18x Stain

All of the ones I left blank are the ones I basically just need some strategy assistance with - no amount of practice I put into them seems to scratch the surface. :c Character or path recommendations would be nice - thanks in advance!

Also, thanks for whoever told me the console command for ultralowdetail, the game runs much better now. :)

I used the Kid for this one, but I think any character will do. Just go to the right side, but DON'T TOUCH BANDAGE GIRL. Then, when the zombies are all at one side, run to the left, get the bandage and high-tail it out of that pit. Then finish the level normally.

5-4x: Runman's boost can let him easily blast through most gravity orbs without being influenced much by them, so it's a lot easier to get across that huge pit more or less straight. He can also boost through the very first orb to get the key without going up and back down.

5-10x: Use Ogmo and just alternate between the very left edge of the sawblade pit in the center and the right edge. Lure each zombie into the pit. Ogmo's air jump will give you more control if you need to dodge a jumping zombie or go after a key.

5-14x: It is possible with Meat Boy to wall-climb up the left wall of the pit, allowing you to skip the key. If you need to, you can jump to the center platform at the bottom and juke out the floating guy, then move back to the left wall to climb up without any threats.

I think I can help here, Crash Man.

First of all: I happen to have all of chapter 5 dark world online here:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=654885301C379B21
(Bandages not included, I didnīt have them yet when I recorded those)

Now, some notes:
5-4x: The Kid is not the only character that can pass through to the middle, Naija can as well... and Meat Boy!
Jump to the right in the beginning, and wall jump up once, then to the left. You will either fall (bad, try again ^^), get stuck on the little edge (jump and push left to get in) or you pass through the gap immediately.
Personnally, I found it easier to go back to the first room to get upwards, but thatīs your choice.

5-7x: Hard level, I donīt know if I ever finished it with Meat Boy, Naija is good (you are on steam, or XBox?)

5-8x: If you have Runman: Use him, makes the beginning part easier due to his speed, and he feels less "sticky".
On the part where there is a gap on the left, and then a gap on the far right (before the moving saws), you have to make a little hop. This means that you should not jump before that part, or you probably wonīt make it.
The part with the horizontally moving saws is easy without bandage, just stand on the left and move left/right in very small steps, make a short hop on the last row.
I can upload a vid of how to get the bandage, itīs hard to describe. (Already had it recorded, just have to encode it, if you want it, just say so. ^^)
The part with the vertically moving saws: wait around and stick on the wall, there will be a gap where you can jump over the outermost saw and then move to the side again.

5-10x: Not too hard with Meat Boy, start by landing left of the pit, then alternatively jump left and right of the pit, collecting the key in mid air. Youīll have to find a rhythm, so that the zombie guys run into the pit. When you get the last key, all of them except the 2 on the left side will be dead, and you can just jump over those with a maximum height jump.

5-14x: The par time on this one is very long, so just take your time and lure the carrion kings away, and then get away from them fast, so they go to sleep. You should have none of them chasing you when you climb to the key or back up to the start.

5-16x: This one is tricky. Start by running left, so that you cling on to the debris part, and immediately wall jump to the right, towards the gravity orb. You should land somewhere on the thing where bandage girl is. From there you can easily jump to the pillar below.
For the part with the falling saw you have to find a rhythm again. Keep pressing the direction button towards the wall you are on, and jump when the saws get near, you should pass right between them.
After that part you almost have it, as you can skip the right side of the level with a little wall-jump action.
Jump from the wall above the exit to the flat platform above.

5-18x: This level consists of 2 jumps and in between them you just have to jump up and down in the rhythm of the rocket launchers.
Watch the video, itīs hard to explain. :-)

Good luck!

For 5-20 use ogme if you don't have the kid. When the floor opnes up, quickly rush down and grab it. Run to the other side, jump off the wall back to the side you started on and climb up before it closes on you. Though you can also try it as captain viridian if you actually manage to get there as him.

5-16x Coil

The easy way to do it, as Rane2k described. Both the light world and dark world have massive short cuts on this level.

for 5-20 bandage, stand on the right near bandage girl with all the meat clones trying to get at you. When the bridge opens, run down to the left, Nab the bandage, then quickly jump back up on the left.

For 3-19x El Topo, run to the right, then jump just as the missile is fired. Jump into the crumbling block hole there, and stay near the crumbling block on the left without touching it. Launcher shouldn't see you. For the second one, just crumble floors while dodging missles. Shouldn't be hard. Then drop down. Run to the right, and stick to the right wall of crumbling blocks. you should be able to dodge the rockets, or get them to hit the solid block if it sees you.

When you get to the belt, there are 2 saws. Just go up, Hold right around halfway through. When you clear both saws, wall jump back to the belt. Getting the Bandage is another story. You need to get the key on the roof, then go back INTO the room with the missles and then grab it by going into a 1 block VERTICAL entrance. I find it is easier going down the second time, as the blocks are already broken, you just have to dodge, run, and beware of the saws.

I would consider myself as "Intermediate" when it comes to skill level in this game. And I know there are some players out there on the forum that are very good at this game, so I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips! I play on Xbox so keep characters in mind.
