So I was just wondering what games you guy's have played that required the most dedication and mastery to beat them and beat them well.  For me unfortunately Super Meat Boy doesn't make my list, and I'll try to explain why.  SMB has a good curve into the insane difficulty, it becomes A LOT easier once you've mastered it or gotten tips on certain levels.  It also lets you skip quite a few levels...

So my picks are:

-Ikaruga (w/ no continues used)

-Super Ghouls and Ghosts (2x to proper beat it)

-Demon's Souls

For me all three of these just whipped it out and slapped you in the face from the start w/ intense difficulty.  Forcing me to hunker down and learn everything, and exceed my capabilities as a player to move forward.  And I really appreciate a game like that.

What are yours?

Rhythm Tengoku Gold. (Rhythm Heaven)

It is so hard to beat all the 50 Rhythm games,

Then you have reward system for how well you do in each of them,

A "Try Again" rating (Worst)
An "Ok" rating (Good Enough for moving on to the next game)
A "Just Ok" rating (Good Enough to move on but close to Superb)
A "Superb" rating (Good Enough to move on but how amazingly you did rewards you with a Medal)

After completing a game on with a Superb rating sometimes you get a chance for you to collect a Perfect Status for a Game you get 3 chances to do it before you have to wait for another one.

A "Perfect" rating (Requires you to do everything in a game completely Perfect when the chance comes around netting you a sweet prize)

Kirby's Air Ride.  Seriously, just try to become a master of a game that damn simple.

I agree some of those challenges are pretty hard.

I remember my brother had perfected everything in Rhythm Heaven.

I just couldn't bother.

All of BIT.TRIP.
Hit every single beat. In a 15-minute long stage. While everything in the background is trying to distract you.

Trials HD, good luck getting platinum on EVERYTHING.

I actually did Ultimate Endurance and that was hard as shit. I'd also throw any old school beat em up under the bus, streets of rage 3, Battletoads etc.

Those are all originally hard games, but also insanely hard to master - a game can be easy as heck and still incredibly difficult to master. I just can't think of any.

Am I a bad person?

Yes.

I suggest trying it over and over until you either finish it or your eyes explode.

I was going to settle for never playing it again.

Rhythm Tengoku Gold. (Rhythm Heaven)
This is IMO but coming from a rhythm game background it seems simple enough. I can already carry a beat fine.

It's easy to do well on but hard as shit to perfect everything.

Personally, Bit Trip Beat is my most rageful game.

I've never beaten the first stage. Am I alone in hating it?

BEAT is pertty hard, but BIT.TRIP CORE is harder. It took me 5 tries to get past Stage 1. I always died a bit before the boss D:
