Hey guys, as you may or may not know SMB has many glitches & exploits that if used may significantly improve your times.  What I have always struggled with is not knowing whether these "glitches" are part of the design, built in as secrets, or if they are in fact unintentional loose ends. Either way I feel that it's important to know which exploits are ethically okay and not okay to do. How do you guys feel about these exploits?

If you don't know about any exploits or glitches a simple youtube search should fill you right in

Honestly, I am completely disgusted by them. The unintentional 0.00's are alright, they are going to be dealt with.

The real problem is with the people purposely breaking the shit out of Naija for no reason, everyone knows it is a glitched time. Don't force other people to glitch just to compete.

(I like leaderboards)

But what can you do.

Nothing.

That's life.

What part of exploit don't you get? Exploits are bad.

Unintentional side-effects are sometimes accepted, but usually are not. An example of an accepted on is Rocket-jumping in Quake. When the developers learned of it, they accepted the unintentional side-effect of their code and embraced it as a gameplay mechanic.

Being able to fly through a wall is not a side-effect that is supposed to be embraced by anyone.

The way I see it, we're all playing the same game by the same rules. If you care about your time, do what it takes to be fastest. Otherwise you're just making excuses.

As far as your question, which ones are OK and not I'd say it's like this. Some of them may not even be glitches. So many characters have them, it's hard to say.

OK
Alien Hominid super jump/clock stall
Pink Knight super jump
Spelunky boost
walljump slide
Meat Ninja

Gamebreaking
Tim Teleportation
Sawblades rotating during pause.
Naija going through walls (only did this once by accident)
Steve (lolwut, why does this character exist? I'm guessing he got leaderboard disabled by the time I unlocked him)
