I found a slight difference that can make at least one level faster. I explained it in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P87d3dpecwE&feature=player_embedded

Does anyone know any other differences between these characters? Up till today I thought they were just palette swaps. I noticed on 4-15, the chomping rocket seems to take slightly longer to notice you if you use 4bit, which makes the level play out a bit different.

Interesting, it looks like it's because he spawns a little faster.

Yeah, 4 Bit Meat Boy spawns faster. You'll notice that the laser isn't active (as bold), in the first second or so. This allows you to slip by and is much easier to do with Ogmo since he has an even faster spawn.

I was speedruning 4-14 earlier and I just couldn't beat my score after an hour of doing it. After watching the video I shaved about .30 seconds off once I successfully did that trick.

I first found this with a level where a misile launcher kills you instantly unless you are 4/8 bit meat boy. the timer doesnt start until the animation is over but it can change the timing of moving obstacles/less waiting for some speedruns.

You're a better man than most for posting this! Most people would just sit on it and use it to get the world record.

I knew there was always something about 4-bit Meat Boy that made me feel better than normal. I thought it nostalgia pumping through my veins

Hardcore find!  This should help people shave a few 1/10ths of a second.

Same. I always liked 4-bit, but I thought it was the retro meat stains that did it for me.

I found another level where 4bit Meat Boy  can shave off some time. On 5-1, you can actually jump before a saw that you would normally have to wait for with regular Meat Boy. Here's a video showing it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWH-NT1prjI&feature=channel_video_title

Hopefully other people can find some uses for 4bit!
