What do you think they Are.
I personally always thought they were zombies. The first level they appear in is called "Abominations" after all.

I always thought they were the civilization who lived in Rapture before whatever demolished the world occurred. Now they are mutants who know nothing of their past lives. Maybe Meat Boy was one of them. Maybe a nuclear disaster. lmao. I am getting too far into this, I am sure they only exist simply for the reason of making the game harder.  Sorry for the amount of text.  |

There were enemies that acted like them that were supposed to show up Hell (specifically, the boss battle) but were removed as they made things too difficult. Since Hell's boss is made of dead Meat Boys, that would imply that the enemies that appear in the Rapture are Meat Boys from Hell that were left deformed after that explosion caused by Dr. Fetus.

Creepers? Anyway, I guess there's not only one Meat Boy and while he was in hell and Fetus nuked the fucking real world they survived but mutated. Hence the level name, "Abomination". |

Exactly. All the dead MBs after that huge atomic bomb becomes bad MBs. So yeah, it's something like all your deaths now are against you. A little creepy. |

I think their some sort of genetics experiment gone wrong. Think about it. In most levels that they appear in, they fall out of tubes...Maybe that's where they were stored? And like you said, the first level they appear in is called abomination. Maybe they were prototypes made by a mad scientist who made meat boy!  |

Every time meat boy dies, he is not really reborn.  The meat boy that died gets sent to Hell, and a new meat boy is created. After the destruction of the Meat Golem, some zombie Meats escaped from hell and into the world above, longing to take revenge on the player that caused their demise.  |
